The DQ Lineup had 1 DQI character, 3 DQII characters, 1 DQIII character, 2 DQIV characters, 3 DQV characters, 2 DQVI characters (I'm including Young Terry), 1 DQVII character, and 3 DQVIII charactersĪnd then the FF lineup is 4 FFVII characters, 2 FFVIII characters, 0 FFIX characters (unless you count Eiko as a helper, Zidane is in the PSP port), 3 FFX characters, 3 FFX-2 characters (you can play as BOTH versions of Yuna), 1 FFXI character, and 2 FFXII characters. I think the best example of this before things changed is one of my favorite games ever in FF+DQ Fortune Street Special (and the later PSP port) which came out not too long after the merger. Yeah you could just see this as synergy and advertising the other PS games but like.why tho? I remember playing Chocobo Racing on PS1 and LOVING the remixes of old FF tracks but then found it so odd that you could unlock Cloud, Squall, and. Of course FFI is in the spotlight again because CHAOS memes but it definitely hasn't been seen as a quality thing. Flip back to FF and who talks about FFII and their characters outside Firion/Emperor in Dissdia and "beating up your own party member" jokes? I think overall DQ feels more even with it's treatment while FF is clearly split between FFVII and its successors and the "older" FFs which they seem to treat as sort of a niche spinoff. And in a similar vein, DQ entries like III and V get more attention, yes, but fans still love the characters and settings from early entries like I and II (just look at Builders). But being part of the fandom back then there WAS a clear divide between the FFVII and later fans and people like me who still adored FFVI and earlier titles. yeah I know even in the PS1 days we got stuff like Origins (I+II) and FF Chronicles (IV+CT) so I'm not exactly talking LITERALLY. If the new Pixel version has the GBA content, then yes I agree, it will be the definitive version of the game.Ĭlick to shrink.I mean. The iPhone and Steam versions have their own visual design - I havent played those versions yet, planning to play V and VI on Steam soon actually. The PS1 version is the only version that has CG intros like the PS1 FF games.

The PS1 version suffered mainly from load times but again that is due to the PS1 limitations.

Where it performs poorly in sound/visual, makes up for the extra content like the extra dungeon and a few other additions (like new summons). The GBA version was the most recent version I played and finished, the sound really is bad and the colors are washed out but that is because of the GBA's limitations.

Never came across broken skills (Sabin requires control inputs to do moves and Gau's moves are based on monster skills/blue magic which can make him do random attacks, Umaro a side character attacks randomly) - so that could be the reason why people may have said some things about broken skills or useless characters. Translation on the SNES was fine at least to me - some of the spell names and some of the lines are changed in later versions though none of that really bothered me when I played it - the SNES version is the version I played the most (at least 5 times).
